Bat Mitzvah Gifts

* Have you been invited the the Bat Mitzvah of a close relative and want to bring a gift she will keep forever?

* Are you going to a Bat Mitzvah of a girl who reads Hebrew?

* Is the young woman religious and you want to know what might be a suitable gift?

These are important questions to ask before buying a suitable gift. We can help answer these questions. Here are some suggestions.

Our suggestions:
1. Find out if she will be lighting Shabbat candles after her Bat Mitzvah. If so, a set of candlesticks would be a great idea.

2. If she is reading from the Torah, a colorful yad (Torah pointer) by Emanuel would be very suitable and will encourage her to read again in the future.

3. If the young woman is religiously observant, but it is not the custom in her community to read from the Torah, a kiddish cup would still be suitable, as the mitzvah of reciting Kiddush is her responsibility after her Bat Mitzvah. The decorated siddur would also be a suitable choice as a religiously observant woman will use it at least once a day. Any artwork with Hebrew blessings would also be a great choice.

4. If the Bat Mitzvah gifl is not very traditional, then we suggest buying a Hanukkia which hopefully she WILL use and will proudly display in her room during the rest of the year.

5. The Judaica artwork on this page is suitable for all types of young women, but might be most appreciated by someone who speaks Hebrew and is familiar with the prayerbook.
