Katherine Beller made aliya in 1993 from London. She studied for a year at Fine Art Tutors, London taking a foundation course in fine art, which included courses on life drawing, sculpture, photography and theme painting.
Kathy tends to draw what attracts her attention, be it scenery, still life or theme work. She particularly enjoys using primary colors as she believes that so many houses in Israel have white walls that invite paintings with bold strong colors. Painting for her is very therapeutic and she enjoys being able to express a part of herself that otherwise remains hidden. Once she starts a painting she is obsessed and does nothing else till the work meets her approval and is completed.
Kathy works at the Israel Museum where she is training to be a curator in the Judaica and Jewish Ethnography Wing. She is at present in charge of the photographic archives of the Judaica and Jewish Ethnography information center. She also holds a doctorate in Jewish history from the University of Haifa and is writing her first book entitled ”The Jews in the Italian Inquisition: Modena 1600-1650.”
Kathy also lectures in Jewish history on line at Gratz College for Jewish studies in Philadelphia where she presently holds a position as an adjunct professor.
